Stain Removal
Directions


1.  Treat the spill and/or stain IMMEDIATELY!

2.  Remove the stain by blotting (DON'T RUB)  with a clean white towel and/or by scraping with dull knife or something similar.

3.  Clean the remaining stain as indicated below.  Never over wet the stain, this can cause the stain to become worse or even create a new stain.

4.  Always test the removal solution in an inconspicuous spot on your carpet to test for discoloring.

Cleaning Solutions

 
Ammonia Solution -  Mix one tablespoon of household ammonia with 1/2 cup of water.

Bleach -  Use any common household bleach containing hydrogen peroxide or sodium perborate.  Do NOT use chlorine bleach.  (i.e. Clorox II)

Detergent Solution -  Mix 1 teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent to 1 quart of lukewarm water.  (i.e. Era, Cheer-liquid) 

Drycleaning Solvent -  Use commercial products such as Energine, K2R, Carbona.  Only use in small amounts, solvents can cause damage to the carpet backing, sizings, or stuffing material.   

Vinegar Solution -  Mix 1/3 cup of white household vinegar with 2/3 cup of water.

(Try to avoid wet cleaning on Wool carpeting.)

Enzyme Detergent -  Mix solution following the directions on the label.


Common Stains

Blood - Apply cool Detergent Solution, blot.  Apply cool Ammonia Solution, blot.  Apply Enzyme Detergent, blot.  Rinse thoroughly with water, blot until dry.  If stain remains use a rust remover or oxalic acid solution.  Bleaching with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide  may be necessary.


Chocolate - Scrape off as much as possible with spatula or dull knife.  Apply cool Detergent Solution, blot.  Apply Ammonia Solution, blot.  Apply Vinegar Solution, blot.  Apply Enzyme Detergent, blot.  Rinse thoroughly with water, blot until dry.


Lipstick - Scrape off as much as possible with spatula or dull knife.  Apply Drycleaning solvent, blot.  Apply Detergent, blot.  Apply Ammonia Solution, blot.  Apply Enzyme Detergent, blot.  Rinse with water, blot until dry.  Use drycleaning solution as long as possible.


Coffee -   Apply Detergent Solution, blotting frequently.  Apply Vinegar Solution, blot.  Cover with dry towels until dry.


Nail Polish -   Apply Drycleaning Solvent.  Apply nail polish remover. (TEST FIRST).  If stain remains, apply  Detergent Solution, blot until dry.  Apply Ammonia Solution, blot.  Apply Vinegar Solution, blot.  Rinse with water, blot until dry.


Urine -   Blot up as much as possible.  Apply Detergent Solution, blot.  Apply Ammonia Solution, blot.  Apply Vinegar Solution, blot.  Rinse thoroughly with water, blot until dry.  If stain remains use a rust remover or oxalic acid solution.  Bleaching with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide or sodium perobate may be necessary.  Urine stays may cause permanent dye removal from fibers.


Vomit -   Blot up as much as possible.  Apply Enzyme Detergent, blot.  Apply Ammonia Solution, blot.  Apply Vinegar Solution, blot.  Rinse with water, blot until dry.


Wine -   Apply Detergent Solution, blot.  Apply Vinegar Solution, blot.  Apply Ammonia Solution, blot.  Rinse thoroughly with water, blot until dry.  If stain remains bleaching with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide or sodium perobate may be necessary.  Rinse thoroughly with water, blot until dry.
